Caps Can Do™ Recycle Plastic Caps, Save Wildlife

Weisenbach Recycled Products is rolling out a new program to collect plastic bottle caps made from polypropylene (#5 plastic or PP) called Caps Can Do™.  This new program helps to solve a big problem: reducing the amount of plastic litter while educating consumers, protecting wildlife, and finding new uses for a material that is rarely recycled in the United States.

Many times consumers are told to put their plastic bottles in the recycling bin, and to toss the plastic cap into the trash.  This is because the bottles are made of a different material than their caps are.  While the bottles themselves can easily be recycled in most areas, there are currently a very limited number of facilities that will recycle the caps.

The small caps are easily overlooked and often end up as litter.  Once in the environment, the caps can be mistaken by animals and birds as an easy meal.  The results can be tragic.  Even if the caps make it to a landfill, they can still pose a threat to birds that scavenge through the trash looking for food.

Weisenbach is looking to partner with zoos, aquariums, parks, wildlife centers and other such environmental-minded organizations to help educate consumers, encourage personal responsibility, and of course, provide an opportunity to recycle all of those caps!

You can learn more, including how to recycle your own caps and what specific types of materials we can accept, at our website: CapsCanDo.org or on Facebook , keyword CapsCanDo.
